Colorectal & General Surgeon Dr Steve Lau

Steve is an Australian-trained specialist General and Colorectal surgeon based in Geelong and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
Upon completing his medical degree at The University of Melbourne, he underwent further training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and completed his general surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital. He then pursued further subspecialty training in the Gold Coast University Hospital and the Western Hospital, Footscray through the internationally acclaimed Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) training program.
Steve is passionate about research and minimally invasive surgery and has completed a Masters of Surgical Research in ‘The Outcomes of Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision (TaTME) in Australia and New Zealand’ through Deakin University, Geelong.
Steve has a strong interest in bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, hernias, perianal conditions and minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic and transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS). He also provides endoscopic services (gastroscopy and colonoscopy).
Following three enjoyable fellowship years in Geelong, he grew to love the region for its community and work life balance. Steve and his wife decided to settle in Geelong with their three children.
