Frequently Asked Questions
How soon can I get to see the surgeon?
If your condition is urgent, we will prioritise scheduling your appointment sooner. For less acute conditions, we aim to see you within 2-3 weeks of referral. It is important to be flexible with your availability to accommodate the appointment times.
How long do I have to wait after initial consultation before surgery?
We will provide you with more specific information regarding anticipated timeline for your procedure based on individual circumstances and medical needs. It is essential to communicate openly and follow any pre-operative instructions provided to ensure a smooth and timely transition to surgery.
What are the costs of surgery?
Fees vary for each procedure depending on complexity and level of cover. Your private health insurance and Medicare will cover part of the surgeon’s fees; however, this will vary depending on insurer and level of cover. Dr Lau typically charges a gap fee and you will be given an informed financial consent outlining any fees/item numbers for the procedure. The surgeon’s fee does not include your anaesthetist fee, the hospital excess and pathology costs.

Dr Lau is accredited at the Epworth but does not currently have regular lists there.
Do you accept WorkSafe/TAC or uninsured patients?
